Art and I

            -- By Shwetha Arvind

I have always been intrigued by the dynamics and complexities of  mother nature and human relationships. From questioning various forms of expressing them to articulating my thoughts better, (as to what I believe is relevant at a point of time) it has been a constant process of learning. Initially I started off with verbal mediums like debates, extempore etc, then moved onto poetry writing and pencil sketching. Equipped  with a pencil and my humble strokes, sketching taught me  how to express emotions with just shades of black and white.

My quest to qualitatively articulate my thoughts has further lead me into the world of mixed media, oil and acrylic paintings. Different brush strokes, the range of colour shades available  and the freedom to mix and match them has given me a larger arena to shape my ideas and colour their moods. Any form of learning is a humbling experience and I am not an exception to it. Over the last four years I have attempted to express myself through the paintings I chose to do. I have also tried to bring my cultural roots and areas of interest onto the canvas that I have created. Each brush stroke has been a defining moment, a  learning.

The River flows.....

                                                                                        -- By Shwetha Arvind

Every time I look at a gushing river, it seems to be on a mission, reminding me of Robert Frost's line " miles to go before I sleep..." My desire to put those words onto a canvas resulted in this painting that I call " The river flows..." The bright colour of the autumn leaves, the rugged rocky path, the calm banks, none seem to distract the steel grey water from its mission, it continues to flow....
